Rate relief bills move rapidly through legislature
- February 11, 2010
Emergency bills aimed at providing rate relief for Applachian Power customers are moving quickly through the Virginia General Assembly.
Under the legislation, Appalachian Power would suspend a 12.8 percent interim rate increase that went into effect in December.
The Senate passed its rate relief bill today. The House of Delegate passed its bill on Tuesday. The legislation will take effect immediately when the bills clear both houses and are signed by Gov. Bob McDonnell.
Appalachian Power has drawn harsh criticism from lawmakers for the rate increase. The rate hike and cold winter weather have created huge jumps in many customers’ bills.
