Prince William considers land use plan based around mass transit

Prince William County officials are considering a new land-use design for the county, creating 25 walkable communities based around mass transit. The plan is designed to reduce sprawl in the region by creating half-mile “circles of commerce” or “circles of community” with high-density, mixed-use projects. (The Washington Post)

Mortgage companies Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are becoming pawns in the presidential campaign. Republican nominee Sen. John McCain blamed the current market turmoil on Freddie and Fannie said Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama had encouraged them to take risky loans. But Obama blames the pursuit of deregulation for the current crisis and says he never “prompted” Fannie Mae. (The Washington Post)
