Industrial gas company Praxair plans to spend more than $15 million to locate at Osage Bio Energy’s facility in Hopewell, creating 17 jobs.
Praxair will capture and purify carbon dioxide from the plant and market it for applications such as freezing food, making carbonation and extracting natural gas from the ground.
Virginia competed with North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia for the project.
“It is gratifying to see a Virginia supply chain develop to generate gases for several vital applications. Each new green job created will pay above-average salaries, and there is tremendous room for potential growth as a supplier to other major companies in the region,” Gov. Bob McDonnell said in a statement.
Praxair chose Virginia because of its infrastructure, central location on the East Coast and business friendliness.
