Port traffic remains down

The Port of Virginia reported an 18 percent drop in container traffic for October.
The port said it handled 159,781 TEUs, or 20-foot equivalent units, which was down 28,945 TEUs during October 2008.
That means for the year, container traffic at the Port of Virginia is down a total of 18 percent. The Port of Virginia handled 1.44 million TEUs through October, compared with 1.76 million TEUs during the same period last year.
The port also reported that its October trade balance included 57 percent exports and 43 percent imports, which was unchanged from September.
