Philip Morris USA files lawsuit over counterfeit cigarettes
- January 25, 2010
Philip Morris USA has filed a lawsuit against G.J. Smokes in Mastic, N.Y., for allegedly selling counterfeit Marlboro cigarettes.
“G.J. Smokes is the fifth Mastic, [N.Y.] location in less than a year that we have sued for selling counterfeit product,” Joe Murillo, vice president and associate general counsel, Altria Client Services, said in a statement.
Philip Morris agents purchased the counterfeit cigarettes, Philip Morris said. The company filed lawsuits against four other smoke shops in Mastic in 2009.
The move is part of an aggressive campaign by Philip Morris to end the sale of counterfeit cigarettes. Philip Morris has filed lawsuits against 27 stores in New York and New Jersey since May 2009.
