Orbital Sciences revenue up 13 percent

Dulles-based Orbital Sciences Corp. reported a 13.5 percent increase in its income in the third quarter because of increases in the company’s satellite and space program segments.
Revenue rose to $314.5 million in the third quarter, compared with $277 million in the same period last year. Net income in the quarter rose to $10.6 million, or 18 cents per diluted share, compared to $9.4 million, or 16 cents per diluted share, during the third quarter of 2009.
The company primarily saw increases in its resupply the international space station, national security satellite and communications satellite programs. The revenues were partially decreased by less activity its missile defense interceptor and target launch vehicle programs and a human spacecraft program that was ended in the second quarter of 2010.
