Holiday shoppers are spending more money online.

About $28 billion was spent online during the first 49 days of the November-December 2010 holiday shopping season, according to Reston-based comScore.
This is a 12 percent increase over the same period last year.

In the last weekend before Christmas, online retail shopping reached $900 million, a 17 percent increase above the same week last year.

“Spending growth has remained strong right through the final shopping weekend of the holiday season,” said comScore chairman Gian Fulgoni. “The growth rate of 17 percent witnessed during the final weekend capped off the heaviest online spending week of all time at $5.5 billion.”
