Obama nominates Gibney to U.S. District Court

President Barack Obama has nominated John A. Gibney, a Richmond attorney with ThompsonMcMullan, to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Gibney has been with ThompsonMcMullan since 2003. He typically represents businesses, local governments, constitutional officers and individuals in regards to litigation, employment, constitutional issues, professional licensure, zoning and land use, and local government law.

Gibney attended the College of William and Mary and received a law degree from the University of Virginia.

Senators Mark Warner and Jim Webb have recommended Gibney for the seat.

Gibney is involved in many civic and professional activities, including the Chesterfield Health Care Commission, Board of Directors of Lawyers Helping Lawyers and the Governor’s Substance Abuse Services Advisory Council.
