Northrop Grumman receives $187 million contract for work on USS Gerald R. Ford

The Navy awarded a $186.6 million contract to Northrop Grumman continue engineering and design of the USS Gerald R. Ford.
The contract revision funds additional design, planning and system integration activities to support construction.
“Now that the design is in the three-dimensional product model our effort is focused on the production of instructions for the shops and ship assembly,” Mike Shawcross, vice president of aircraft carrier construction program. “We’re excited to continue progress on the engineering and construction of CVN 78.”
The Gerald R. Ford is the first ship of the Gerald R. Ford class of aircraft carriers. The carriers include flight deck changes, improved weapons handling systems and increased electrical power generation capacity to lower operating costs to the Navy.
