New passenger rail service started
- July 20, 2010
Amtrak today began additional passenger service between Richmond and the Northeast.
Officials said the new train from Amtrak’s Staples Mill Station provides hourly morning northbound departures and more flexible southbound return trips.
Virginia stops along the route to Washington. D.C., include Ashland, Fredericksburg, Quantico, Woodbridge and Alexandria. Passengers can continue on the train as far north as Boston.
The new Richmond train is the second service launched under the Amtrak Virginia partnership, which introduced a new Lynchburg train last fall.
The partnership includes the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, Amtrak and the host railroads along the routes, in this case CSX Transportation.
