MeadWestvaco moving innovation center to Richmond

MeadWestvaco is moving its Center for Packaging Innovation from Raleigh to Richmond, relocating 128 jobs to Virginia.
Some of the employees will work in MWV’s new downtown headquarters, while others will work in leased lab space. That location has not been yet been determined. MWV plans to invest $10 million in both its headquarters and the lab space to accommodate CPI.
MWV CEO John Luke said the move would improve collaboration and “take full advantage of our world class headquarters.”
CPI handles research and development, design and engineering for the specialty paper and packaging company.
Employees from CPI expect to move this summer, says Alison von Puschendorf, spokeswoman for MWV. The number of employees transferring to Richmond will help determine how many local hires are needed.
