McDonough Bolyard Peck Inc. has been selected as part of the program management team that will oversee a $1 billion Midtown Tunnel project in Hampton Roads.
The national construction consulting firm, with offices in Fairfax County and Williamsburg, will work with the Virginia Department of Transportation, participating in negotiations with a design-build firm to reach a construction agreement for a new two-lane tunnel.
It will run parallel to the existing Midtown Tunnel, connecting the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth. The project also includes an extension of the Martin Luther King Freeway and interchanges that will connect to the tunnel. “MBP will be working closely with other members of the project management team to ensure we provide VDOT with quality service and deliver the project on-time and within budget,” Michael Prezioso III, a senior vice president and regional manager, said in a statement.
The project is being done under the state’s public-private transportation act and will be funded primarily by toll revenue. The design and construction phases have tentative completion dates of 2014-2015.
