McDonnell to ask General Assembly for $5 million for EVMS
- December 13, 2010
Gov. Bob McDonnell plans to ask for an additional $5 million for Eastern Virginia Medical School in the current budget.
McDonnell, who is scheduled to present his proposed budget amendments on Friday, wants lawmaker to add $5 million to support EVMS’ core instructional requirements for medical and health profession students. The money would be used to hire additional faculty and researchers.
The Liaison Commission on Medical Education (LCME), an accrediting group for medical schools, will revisit the medical school in 2012. Faculty and finances will be key considerations in the reaccreditation process. The money should help during the school’s review and allow it to strengthen its academic and management relationships.
