Virginia companies celebrate 10 to 250 years in business
- March 1, 2016
Virginia Business isn’t the sole company in the commonwealth celebrating a significant anniversary.
Large and small enterprises across the commonwealth are observing 10 to 250 years in business.
Virginia Community Capital, for example, has operated for 10 years. A nonprofit community development financial institution, VCC promotes housing development and revitalization efforts. It has offices in Christiansburg, Richmond and Norfolk.
Newport News Shipbuilding, on the other hand, is observing its 130th anniversary. The shipyard is the commonwealth’s largest industrial employer with more than 20,000 employees.
Read profiles of three Virginia companies celebrating remarkable anniversaries:
- Chesapeake-based Dollar Tree, which opened its first dollar stores in 1986;
- Winchester-based Shockey Companies, which began as a wagon repair business in 1896; and
- The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, which has served guests since 1766.
