Lynchburg-based team wins $5 million prize for 100-mpg car

The Lynchburg-based Edison2 team has won a $5 million prize for creating a consumer-friendly car that can get at least 100 miles per gallon.
Edison2’s Very Light Car No. 98 was named the Automotive X Prize winner in its category during a ceremony today in Washington, D.C. The competition was sponsored by Progressive Insurance.
Two other teams each won a $2.5 million award in the competition’s alternative car classes.
