Localities across Virginia are considering four-day work weeks for employees in an effort to save on soaring energy costs.

Fairfax County is considering studying whether to switch to a four-day, 10-hour work week, according to The Washington Post. The county is facing a potential $350 million revenue shortfall next year.

Arlington County is also considering a four-day week. The Bristol school system has even proposed a four-day school week to save on energy needed for buses.

Last week, Gov. Timothy M. Kaine asked all state agencies to consider alternative work weeks to save on energy costs, including a four-day work week option and telecommuting.
