State legislators are spending an extra three days trying to compromise on a two-year budget.

The session was scheduled to end Sunday, but the General Assembly agreed to extend the session an extra three days. It appears that a special session will be needed for any decisions on how to redo the transportation plan.

The budget conferees are still caught up on teacher pay raises and additional funding for mental health and pre-kindergarten programs, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Lawmakers did agree this weekend on a bill that would repeal the widely unpopular abusive driver fees. The bill also includes provisions to refund fees that have already been collected and reinstate licenses for those whose were revoked when they didn’t pay the fees.

Each extra day lawmakers are in overtime costs Virginians $20,000.
