IT employment reaches all-time high in March
- April 10, 2012
The need for information technology workers continues to grow.
In March, the number of IT jobs grew by 15,000, or 0.4 percent from February to 4,146,300, according to Alexandria-based TechServe Alliance, a collaboration of IT services firms, clients, consultants and suppliers. The number of IT jobs was up 2.8 percent from March 2011.
“While overall employment growth was disappointing in March, demand for IT professionals remains robust. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment grew at almost twice the rate of the overall job market,” Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance, said in a statement. “Based on our analysis of BLS data as well as initial reports of increased demand for IT professionals through the H-1B visa program, we fully anticipate that IT employment will continue to hit new highs throughout 2012.”
The first quarter of 2012 marks more than two years of consecutive quarterly growth in IT employment.
