Work starts on 550-acre Liberty Ridge community
East West Partners has begun work on Liberty Ridge, a 550-acre community in James City County. The neighborhood will feature 138 home sites ranging in size from three to nine acres. The main entrance will be on Centerville Road. Plans for Liberty Ridge include recreational amenities such as resort-style pool, a clubhouse, a playground and two community parks.  The community also will feature an extensive walking/biking trail system. Liberty Ridge is near the county’s 689-acre Freedom Park. East West Partners has developed 35 communities in seven states, including six in the Hampton Roads region.

Plans progress at Quarterpath
Riverside Health System has received state approval to build a 120-bed nursing home at Quarterpath at Williamsburg, a 350-acre mixed-use development at the intersection of state Route 199 and U.S. 60. Plans for the project include 1,374 dwellings (including single-family homes, town houses and condos) 200,000 square feet of medical office space, 202,000 square feet of offices space and 400,000 square of “destination” retail use. Riverside also is seeking state approval for Doctors Hospital of Williamsburg, a 40-bed hospital for the site. Two earlier requests were turned down. In addition, work is under way on the Quarterpath Crossing shopping center being developed by S.L. Nusbaum Realty Co. and the Village at Quarterpath residential community being developed by Wermers Development. The shopping center’s major tenants will include Harris Teeter, Towne Bank and Wachovia. The Village at Quarterpath will include 77 residential units.

Sales begin at Towne Park
Towne Park Corporate Center in York County has begun selling and leasing the first 25,000 square feet of office condos. The project is on 9.1 acres on Bulifants Boulevard near Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, P.F. Summers Development LLC is developing Towne Park in four phases. It eventually will include 125,000 square feet. 

Construction begins on High Street project
High Street, a $220 million mixed-use project, is under construction on 50 acres on Richmond Road in Williamsburg between Ironbound and Bypass roads. The development will include 574 residential units (including apartments, town houses and condos), 26,500 square feet of office space and 200,000 square feet of retail space. The first announced tenant is Movie Tavern, which will provide dining and drink in addition to showing first-run movies. High Street is being developed by the Roseland Property Co. of Portsmouth.

AVID Medical expands facilities in James City County
AVID Medical is doubling the size of its building and its work force. The company is constructing a 91,000-square-foot, $8-million addition at the Stonehouse Commerce Park in Toano in James City County.  The expansion is expected to result in the addition of 300 jobs at AVID, bringing total employment to about 600. AVID Medical specializes in preparing customized procedure trays for hospitals and surgery centers.
