Google’s search engines continue to dominate market share, according to a comScore Inc. analysis.
The Reston-based company’s monthly study showed that Google Sites accounted for 66.3 percent of October’s explicit core searches, described by comScore as “user engagement with a search service with the intent to retrieve search results.” This was 0.2 percent increase from September 2010.
Following Google was Yahoo Sites, which was responsible for 16.5 percent of searches. Microsoft Sites had 11.5 percent, the Ask Network had 3.6 percent, and the AOL network carried 2.1 percent. Yahoo, Ask, and AOL Sites all saw a small decline in market share from September 2010, while Microsoft Sites increased 0.3 percent.
comScore estimates that more than 16.6 billion explicit core searches were conducted in October, with 11 billion people using Google for their search.
