Glen Allen company gets $20 million design-build contract for Roanoke road project
- July 19, 2012
The Commonwealth Transportation Board has awarded a $20.4 million design-build contract to American Infrastructure – VA Inc. in Glen Allen to improve a major interchange in Roanoke.
The project is expected to help the flow of traffic at Interstate 581/Route 220 Expressway and Elm Avenue.
“This project may be located in the heart of Roanoke, but it is on Virginia’s most heavily travelled road west of Richmond, and these mobility and accessibility improvements will benefit the entire region,” Gov. Bob McDonnell, said in a statement.
American Infrastructure – VA Inc. is based out of Worcester, Pa., and has a branch in Henrico County. It expects to start on the project in mid-2013, with completion slated for summer 2015.
It will add one lane to both off ramps from I-581 and extend the left turn lane in each direction on Elm Avenue. In addition, two Elm Avenue bridges will be widened.
