Four Virginia localities make ‘Best places for the rich and single’ list
- August 22, 2011
Four Northern Virginia localities were among 25 “Best places for the rich and single” picked by Money magazine.
Tysons Corner ranked second on the list, while Arlington County was seventh, Herndon was 20th, and Alexandria was 23rd.
The top spot on the list was taken by Manhattan Beach, Calif.
“Catching a young, bright thing in this vast dating pool all comes down to timing,” the magazine says about Tysons Corner where 31 percent of the adult population is single and the median family income is $143,749. “Most of Tysons Corner’s white-collar employees drive in for work and don’t stay, so mining for prospects is a 9-to-5 affair. Strike up conversations with potential suitors while in line for coffee or lunch. Break the ice by talking about the notorious gridlock.”
The magazine says singles make up 42 percent of the adult population of Arlington where the median family income is $119,427. “Home to the Pentagon and several other government agencies, Arlington is filled with policy wonks, analysts and researchers. Bar hop in the Clarendon-Court House neighborhood, where happy hour, pub quizzes and karaoke nights make playing the field fun and easy,” Money says.
The survey was based on a number of factors including job growth, home affordability, safety, school quality, health care, arts and leisure, and diversity.
