The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts named Fountainhead Properties LLC the top winner of the 2010 Muse Awards. The event, now in its 6th year, celebrates creativity in business. The Richmond-based real estate company beat out 21 semi finalists and eight finalists.

Fountainhead has played a major role in transforming Richmond’s old Manchester district into a neighborhood that is a magnet for the arts. Since 2001, the firm has renovated more than 500,000 square feet of space, focusing on old industrial buildings. One of its projects, Plant Zero, turned a 100,000-square-foot former box factory into a home for art studios, apartments, galleries and an events center.

The company’s focus on using the arts as a way to renovate the character of a once abandoned industrial neighborhood into a thriving commercial and residential area made the company stand out.  “Creativity is a hallmark of any successful business,” Alex Nyerges, director of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, said in a statement.
