Ferguson acquires company with locations in Alabama and Mississippi
- January 3, 2011
In a move to broaden its presence in the Southeast, Newport News-based Ferguson acquired Summit Pipe and Supply Co. Inc. The deal, which closed on Dec. 31, includes three locations in Northport and Wetumpka, Ala., and Jackson, Miss. Terms were not disclosed.
Summit is a waterworks distributor. Ferguson CEO Frank Roach said in a statement that it will be “a tremendous asset to Ferguson as we grow our waterworks footprint in this region. Strong vendor alignment coupled with the ability to add continuous territory filling in between our existing Florida and Baton Rouge Ferguson Waterworks locations, made this an attractive acquisition.”
Brothers Doug and Mark Pugh started Summit in 2001. They will continue in their positions, with Doug the Tuscaloosa branch manager and Mark, the area’s sales manager.
Ferguson, part of England-based Wolseley plc, is the country’s largest wholesale distributor of plumbing supplies and is a major distributor of HVAC equipment, waterworks and industrial pipes, valves and fittings. In 2010, the company had sales of $8.1 billion and employed about 17,000 people in 1,350 service centers.
