Equinix and Carpathia announce a new 64,000-square-foot data center in Dulles

Equinix, Inc. and Carpathia Hosting Inc. announced plans Tuesday to build a 64,000-square-foot data center in Dulles. Under the terms of the agreement, Carpathia signed a build-to-suit agreement with a joint venture comprised of Equinix and Digital Realty Trust to build the new center on land Carpathia sold next to its existing center in Dulles.
Equinix, based out of Redwood City, Calif., intends to manage the facility, while Carpathia will provide physical security and be the exclusive provider of managed hosting and cloud services. “We are very pleased to be working with Equinix and Digital Realty to build such an impressive facility for our enterprise and federal agency customers,” Peter Weber, CEO of Carpathia Hosting, said in a statement.
The new IBX Vault will cost a reported $40 million to build. it will offer a full range of managed, cloud and compliant services to support health care, commercial and government compliance standards.
The news comes just a few days after Equinix announced plans to open a new data center at its Ashburn campus in 2013.
“This joint project by Equinix, Digital Realty Trust and Carpathia is great news for Loudoun County and the regional economy. Along with a significant financial investment, this project will create many good jobs in both the construction and operational phases, including many positions with highly sought after IT skills and security clearances,” said Tony Howard, president and CEO, Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce.
