A coalition of environmental groups said Monday it will file lawsuits challenging decisions that led to approval of Dominion Virginia Power’s 585-megawatt coal-fired plant in Wise County, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The group plans to contest the State Corporation Commission’s approval of the plant in the Virginia Supreme Court and fight the Air Pollution Control Board’s air-permit approvals in a local circuit court.

Dominion Virginia Power started construction last week, days after receiving its final regulatory approval.  Dominion says the plant is critical to help Virginia meet increasing demand for energy.
