Dollar Tree again boosts sales, profit

Bargain-conscious consumers continues to benefit Dollar Tree Stores Inc.
The Chesapeake-based retailer reported a 12.6 percent increase in sales during the first quarter. The retail chain, which sells goods for $1 or less, reported sales of $1.35 billion during its first quarter, which ended May 1, compared with $1.2 billion during the same period last year.
During the quarter, Dollar Tree opened 74 stores, closed six and expanded or moved 34 stores.
Profit during the quarter was up 5.3 percent to $63.6 million, compared with $60.4 million last year.
