CVCC to expand engineering program
- June 6, 2008
Central Virginia Community College received a $2 million National Science Foundation grant to expand its program to increase Virginia’s engineering graduates.
Under CVCC’s Produced in Virginia program, most of the grant will fund scholarships for students who will take most or all of the requirements for a University of Virginia bachelor of science degree on CVCC’s campus. The remaining money will be used for U.Va. to provide campus services to CVCC students and to expand the program to other community colleges.
Produced in Virginia starts in middle school, encouraging students to take courses in math, science, technology, engineering and math.
The recent grant will allow CVCC to award 23 scholarships during the 2008-09 school year. The program will be facilitated by U.Va., CVCC, Danville Community College and another community college.
