Company buying former Dan River Executive Campus in Danville
- September 28, 2012
A Florida company, Norhurst Inc., has purchased the former Dan River Executive Campus in Danville to expand its operations and relocate several key positions from Northern Virginia.
The move will involve a capital investment of $2.3 million and create 108 new jobs for the Danville region with an overall average wage of $67,000.
Norhurst, based in Tampa, Fla., is working with Chantilly-based Insystech Inc. on government contracts and educational software development projects.
Danville officials said Insystech’s building space lease is expiring, prompting Norhurst to relocate positions to Southern Virginia to reduce operating expense.
“We are pleased to purchase the Dan River Executive Campus and make the necessary improvements so that we can bring our highly skilled people to Danville,” Norhurst President Tim Norton said in a statement. “The building was a complete mess due to neglect. It is our intention to bring it back better than ever and have it be a showplace for Danville.”
Dan River, a textiles company, once was Danville’s largest employer.
The Tobacco Commission provided the project with a $625,000 Tobacco Revitalization Opportunity Fund Grant to assist with the building renovation.
The announcement is the second in two weeks for the Danville region. In mid-September, GOK International, a Chinese furniture assembler, revealed plans to open operations in the Danville area employing 300 people within three years.
