Colonial Williamsburg to drop catalog

      The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation plans to discontinue its mail-order catalog next spring, a move that will eliminate 16 positions.

      The foundation said that, in place of the catalog, it will offer a limited selection of products through on online store.

    Eliminating the catalog will save the foundation millions of dollars each year in paper, printing and postage costs, said

Jim Eason, products division vice president. The decline in Colonial Williamsburg’s catalog business was the result of change in shoppers’ habits, he added.  “Consumers are increasingly going online to search, shop and order merchandise, representing a trend that we and other catalog merchants have witnessed in recent years.”

      Colonial Williamsburg will continue to offer its products in its 20 retail stores and through selected merchants across the country.
