Colonial Downs Group has received a license from the Virginia Racing Commission to resume horse racing in Virginia.

The New Kent racetrack, which closed in 2014, plans to have 15 thoroughbred racing dates next year.

The races will be held from Aug. 8 through Sept. 7. The Virginia Derby will be held Aug. 31.

A stable with 1,000 stalls will open July 25.

Beginning in April , Colonial Downs will offer historical horse racing machines as well as satellite wagering on live horse racing across North America.

A variety of dining services also will be available in the facility.

The Colonial Downs Group said it is making a $300 million investment in reviving the racetrack, creating about 800 jobs by the end of next year.
