Chamber of commerce changes name to reflect tourism push

The Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce has revised its name to reflect a new emphasis on tourism.
The new name is Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.
Through a grants from the Alleghany Foundation and Virginia Tourism Corp., the chamber developed a needs assessment and marketing plan to promote tourism in the area. The plan includes a website, visitor guide, signage and other tourism materials .
The Alleghany County Board of Supervisors, the Town of Clifton Forge and the City of Covington also are providing funds for tourism initiatives.
The chamber has hired David Mikula and Inprint, a Roanoke Valley ad agency, to develop a marketing campaign to promote tourism in the region.
