Cabinet components manufacturer to consolidate in Martinsville
- November 30, 2010
Southern Finishing Co. Inc. plans to consolidate its Virginia and North Carolina operations in Martinsville, adding 67 jobs and saving 137 existing jobs.
Southern Finishing manufactures prefinished components for the cabinet industry. The company will spend $1.7 million to consolidate its operations in a former Hooker Manufacturing building.
“Southern Finishing has a 32-year history in the wood industry in Virginia, so this is a logical step for us,” Ed Brown, president and CEO of Southern Finishing, said in a statement. “Many of our customers and suppliers have facilities in Virginia. We currently have a manufacturing facility here. This background, the availability of affordable space and a labor force with wood industry experience in the area make this an ideal site for Southern Finishing.”
Gov. Bob McDonnell approved $135,000 from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to help Martinsville with the project, and the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission approved $380,000 for the investment.
