Bon Secours to add hospital to its Harbour View campus in Suffolk
- June 4, 2018
Bon Secours Virginia Health System plans to build a hospital on the campus of the Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View in northern Suffolk.
On June 1, the Richmond-based health system notified the commonwealth its intent to establish the Suffolk hospital by transferring up to 25 hospital beds and four operating rooms from Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth.
Toni Ardabell, CEO for Bon Secours Virginia, said in a statement that it has added outpatient services and recruited new physician groups at the Harbour View campus since its opening in 1999.
“As the population has grown, the next logical step is to bring inpatient care to the campus,” she said.
Bon Secours is working with an architectural team determine the hospital’s location on the health center campus and finalize the cost.
The health system said Bon Secours Maryview will continue to provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services in Portsmouth campus, placing an increased focus on the needs of an aging community that requires more complex medical care and longer hospital stays.
The health system will file a certificate of public need (COPN) request to the state, providing more details at that time. Bon Secours expects to receive the health commissioner’s decision of the COPN request in late 2018.
