Defense giant BAE Systems has agreed to buy L-1 Identity Solutions Inc.’s Intelligence Services Group for $295.8 million. The group includes SpecTal in Reston, McClendon LLC in Chantilly and Advanced Concepts Inc. in Columbia, Md.
The companies serve the U.S. intelligence and defense communities. “Their capabilities will enhance BAE Systems existing knowledge … and will better position us to offer our government customers the security and intelligence support they need to complete their missions now and in the future,” Linda Hudson, president and CEO of BAE said in a statement.
The acquisition is conditional upon receiving U.S. regulatory approvals. It’s expected to close in the fourth quarter. After closing, more than 1,000 employees of SpecTal, McClendon and Advanced Concepts would then join the BAE Systems Intelligence and Security Sector, based in Arlington.
BAE, the North American subsidiary of the U.K.-based company, already is a major employer in Northern Virginia.
