Averett offers scholarships to leadership program graduates
- May 5, 2010
Averett University will award a $5,000 renewable scholarship to each high school student attending the college who completes a leadership program sponsored by the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce.
The scholarships can be used for up to four years for total awards of $20,000 for each student. The scholarships will be available to graduates of the chamber’s Junior Leadership Southside Program beginning with the 2010-2011 class. Undergraduate tuition at Danville-based Averett, a private college, is $21,956 for the 2010-11 school term.
The Junior Leadership Southside Program, which began last year, is an eight-month program providing leadership orientation and development to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. It includes monthly sessions of three to six hours each at local businesses. The program is designed to expose students to leadership development activities and employment opportunities in Southern Virginia.
