AMF Bakery Systems expands Asia Pacific operations

AMF Bakery Systems, a leading supplier of bakery equipment in North America, is expanding its footprint in the Asia Pacific. The Richmond-based company now has sales, parts and service offices in Singapore and Beijing as well as a manufacturing facility in Tianjin, China.
“We believe that the Asia Pacific market will be the dominant economic story on the planet over the next two decades,” said President Ken Newsome. “…To be successful in that region, we must be fully present and engaged. Our manufacturing base will not only help us to be competitive in the region, but will help us reduce our costs for other markets.”
A local partner owns the company’s 30,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Tianjin. However, AMF recently bought an office in Singapore owned previously by Shick Tube-Veyor of Kansas, an AMF distributor.
So far, AMF has supplied the equipment for four bakeries in China, Newsome said. “In the last 24 months, we’ve been the lead supplier on new bakeries that have been built in China, Turkey, Poland, Brazil, and we just got an order from the U.K. and Zambia.”
