Alcoa reports first quarter loss

The news wasn’t good for the first blue-chip company to report first quarter earnings. Alcoa, which has operations in Henrico County, reported a 27 percent drop in revenue, resulting in a net loss of $497 million for the first quarter of 2009. The Pittsburgh-based maker of light-weight metals blamed the decline on the economic downturn and a historic drop in aluminum prices.
