ABC Report shows USA TODAY has the highest print circulation
- October 25, 2010
USA TODAY has by far the highest print circulation in the U.S., although it is considered the second-largest newspaper, according to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) report.
The Wall Street Journal is listed as the country’s largest newspaper, because the ABC circulation figures include paid online subscriptions. The Journal has about 450,000 paid online subscribers.
USA Today, the flagship newspaper of Gannett Co. Inc. of McLean, had a circulation of 1.8 million for the six-month period ending Sept. 30, according to the Associated Press, which cited the ABC report. That was down from 1.9 million in the same period in 2009. The Journal’s circulation increased almost 2 percent to 2.06 million in the six-month period ending in September 2009.
USA TODAY is touting that since the last ABC report in March, it has seen its print circulation increase 3,461 copies per day and that it is the leader in single copy newsstand sales, selling more than 425,000 per day.
Overall, newspaper circulation was down 5 percent in the U.S., which slowed from an 8.7 percent decline in the same period the previous year.
