50 new jobs for Frederick

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. plans to produce a new medial liquid formula line at its Middletown plant in Frederick County, creating 50 new jobs.
The company, which produces clinical diagnostics products, will spend $8.9 million on the expansion.
“The Thermo Fisher Middletown facility is one of two Centers of Excellence for our Clinical Diagnostics operations in the U.S.,” Dr. Yuh-geng Tsay, who heads the company’s Specialty Diagnostics business, said in a statement. “Increased customer demand for the types of products manufactured in Middletown made it a natural choice for expansion, and we’re pleased that agencies and government officials at both the state and local levels worked with us to make this possible.”
Gov. Timothy M. Kaine approved spending $90,000 from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to help Frederick with the project.
“This project further reinforces the fact that Frederick County is a competitive business location for those operating in the biotechnology industry,” said Richard Shickle, chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors.
