- May 7, 2012
The University Mall Shopping Center in Fairfax County is getting a major facelift and expansion. According to a story in Fairfax Connection, the 125,000-square-foot mall, built in 1978, will be transformed into a 200,000-square-foot urban center, with some new buildings, an outdoor courtyard and art deco architectural features.
Located near the campus of George Mason University, one of the mall’s major tenants is nearly doubling in size. A Giant food store will go from 36,000 to 64,000 square feet. The project, by mall owner George H. Ricker Realty Corp., will also include the demolition of an existing retail and office building, which will be replaced by two new buildings.
