American Funds Service Company, an investment
manager for individuals and institutions, plans to
invest $13.7 million in a customer service center in
Chesapeake, creating 250 jobs. The company, part of
The Capital Group in Los Angeles, already operates
two facilities in Hampton Roads and employs 600 workers. (Press

company, will invest $1.4 million to open a service
center in Clifton Forge and hire 60 employees. The
center will service a $45 million contract with the Virginia
Department of Transportation to support the Smart
