October 2005

Richmond-based Hilb, Rogal & Hobbs Co. has agreed to pay a $250,000 fine and set up a $30 million fund for its U.S. clients to settle an investigation started by Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal. The attorney general had been investigating charges that HRH's Hartford office made improper payments in placing professional liability insurance. HRH was profiled in the magazine's December 2004 issue.

Genworth Financial has broadened its global reach by tapping into the world's second largest mortgage market in Japan. The company, which has its corporate headquarters in Richmond, is the first residential mortgage guaranty insurance provider in Japan, which has $1.8 trillion outstanding mortgages and generated $240 billion worth of originations in 2004. The insurance giant plans to work with mortgage leaders in Japan, providing mortgage insurance and other options to home buyers there. Its Japan headquarters will be in Tokyo. Genworth was the subject of a cover story in the September 2004 issue.
