Executive Protection Systems, a Winchester provider of emergency services systems, partnered with Penn State Fayette Center for Community and Public Safety in Eberly, Pa., to begin offering classroom and certification programs for first response emergency workers, including police, firefighters and medics. James Madison University’s College of Business was ranked 54th overall nationally in a survey by BusinessWeek magazine. JMU rose to 20th among public universities. The survey uses nine measures to rank schools, among them surveys of business students and recruiters, faculty-student ratios and class size. (News release)

Lantz Construction Co. of Broadway won two awards from Star Building Systems, a manufacturer of custom metal buildings. The Outstanding Builder award cites the company’s market share and sales volume, and the Master Builder award was presented in recognition of work done on the 16,000-square-foot Bryan Tool & Machining Inc. building in

McDaniel Inc., an Elkton contracting company, was sold to Masco Contractor Services LLC of Florida, a residential building services contractor. President Clyde McDaniel said he and his three brothers were offered positions with the company as long as they desired and that the company and its 150 employees would continue to operate as they

Valley Case Management & Cnsulting Services LLC of McGaheysville won a contract from PITG Gaming LLC to provide onsite medical services during the construction phase of the Majestic Star Casino in Pittsburgh. Four new employees will be hired for the one-year contract. (The Daily News-Record)Attorney General Robert F. McDonnell filed for
permission in federal court to represent the Virginia Department of Transportation in a lawsuit filed by nine organizations to prevent the widening of Interstate 81. (The Winchester Star)

GW LLC, a project to revamp Winchester’s George Washington Hotel, will become the first to receive the city’s business development grant for vacant property. Intended for buildings larger than 10,000 square feet which have been vacant for two years or more, the grant allows refunding of business taxes on the project for the first five
