Albemarle to move to Baton Rouge
May 01, 2008

Richmond-based Albemarle Corp. announced Wednesday it will move its corporate headquarters to Baton Rouge, La.

“Ultimately, the combination of the new administration’s ability to drive progressive initiatives for the state, our confidence in the direction of the City of Baton Rouge, and the close proximity to many of our key customers and suppliers made it clear that Louisiana is the right choice for Albemarle,” Albemarle CEO Mark C. Rohr said in a statement.

The specialty chemical manufacturer already has about 600 employees in the area. Already under way in Baton Rouge is a $15 million manufacturing expansion, construction of a $6 million research lab and renovation of downtown offices.

The company was the 26th largest in Virginia last year, according to Virginia Business’ list of leaders.
