Virginia Tech to develop propulsion laboratory
- September 11, 2012
Virgina Tech plans to develop a $3.5 million propulsion laboratory in the expanding Corporate Research Center in Blacksburg.
The proposed 8,100-square-foot facility, operated by the College of Engineering, will support propulsion research.
That research will include next-generation fighter and commercial aircraft engine technology plus power generation gas-turbine technology for the energy industry.
Tech officials believe the specialized facility and equipment will distinguish Virginia Tech as a leader for this type of research.
The Tech Board of Visitors approved a resolution that will enable the university and the Virginia Tech Foundation to move forward with the project.
The Corporate Research Center currently has 125 research, technology, and support companies in offices on 120 acres.
