Tulsa, Okla.-based Mazzio’s LLC, a 50-year-old Italian pizza franchise with 170 restaurants in the Midwest, is coming to Virginia. Raj and Alka Gandhi, a husband and wife team in Northern Virginia that already has franchisees for brands such Exxon Mobil and Firkin Pubs, will open the first Mazzio’s on the East Coast in the Kings Crossing Shopping Center on Route 1 in Alexandria.
The restaurant, a $2.4 million investment, should be open by late October. The center also includes a Walmart store.
The Gandhis signed on as development agents with Mazzio’s in 2011. They were looking for a pizza concept to expand in the Virginia area. They’re currently searching for as many as 30 additional real estate sites, with their search currently focused in the Northern Virginia area for a second location.
Mazzio’s Corp. is a privately held company that owns, operates and franchises Mazzio’s Italian Eatery and Oliveto Italian Bistro restaurant brands in the U.S. The Mazzio’s concept offers pizzas, made-to-order pastas, sandwiches and fresh specialty salads and appetizers. The chain currently operates in eight Midwestern states.
