Freddie, Fannie deal could help housing market
- March 18, 2008
Regulators may loosen restrictions on the amount of cash mortgage-finance companies Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae must keep, allowing them to buy mortgages currently beig avoided by investors, according to CNBC.
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight and the government-regulated enterprises are working on the deal. Allowing Freddie and Fannie to buy more mortgages would help ease the tight credit market.
