Dominion proposes gas-fired plant

Dominion Virginia Power wants to build a 580-megawatt, $619 million natural gas-fired power plant in Buckingham County.

The power company has filed a request with the State Corporation Commission for permission to build the plant. It would generate enough electricity for 150,000 homes. The company wants the plant to be operational by 2011.

Dominion purchased the development from Tenaska earlier this month, and the project has already received key environmental permits.
