Virginia Commonwealth University officials on Monday will mark the beginning of construction of children’s outpatient facility in downtown Richmond.
Groundbreaking on the $168 million Children’s Pavilion will be held at 1001 E. Broad St. adjacent to the VCU Medical Center.
The facility, part of Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, will have 640,000 square feet of space.
The facility will house 72 exam rooms; a surgical area with two operating rooms and two procedure rooms; areas for diagnostic testing, imaging and laboratory services.
Construction also will include an attached parking garage with more than 600 spaces.
VCU officials said the Children’s Pavilion will bring the majority of the outpatient pediatric services, currently spread throughout the medical campus, under one roof.
